If you want to improve your armlock finishes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, mastering weight distribution is essential. In this video, Roger Gracie shares valuable insights on how to make your armlock from mount more effective by using your body weight strategically, rather than simply sitting back and hoping for the best.
“Ideally, you should always try to finish the submission without sitting back... I try to sit on top of the person so he's really feeling your weight at the same time having to defend the arm. It just makes it much harder for the person underneath.”
Key Concepts Covered:
- Stay on top: Avoid immediately sitting back after stepping over the head. Instead, keep your weight on your opponent, making it uncomfortable and limiting their ability to defend.
- Control the arm: Secure the arm by positioning your stomach on the outside, preventing your opponent from pulling the arm out.
- Leg positioning: Bring your leg high on your opponent’s body for maximum pressure, and use your other leg as a base to prevent being rolled.
- Finish with pressure: Only step over the head and sit back if your opponent becomes off-balance or you need to adjust for the finish. The arm becomes much weaker and easier to attack when it is away from the body.
These details can make a significant difference in your submission success rate. Watch the video below to see Roger Gracie demonstrate each step in detail.
