Walk into almost any Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy and you'll witness the same unspoken ritual. A male practitioner steps onto the mats with a female partner, and something quietly shifts. The pace softens. The pressure lightens. Submissions get hinted at rather than finished. It happens without discussion and almost always without malice. It is framed—internally, if not out loud—as respect. But beneath that courteous surface sits a question most gyms never get around to asking
